Introduction

Gracilidris humiloides is an extinct ant species known from a single worker specimen preserved in Dominican amber dating to approximately 20.5 million years ago (Miocene epoch) . The original description was published by Wilson in 1985 under the name Iridomyrmex humiloides, later transferred to Linepithema, and finally placed in the new genus Gracilidris by Wild and Cuezzo in 2006 . The genus Gracilidris was previously known only from fossils, but a highly similar living species was later discovered in South America, representing a case of a 'living fossil' . Size data for body length is unavailable for this species .
