Introduction
Oecophylla macroptera is an extinct fossil ant species known only from Middle Miocene deposits approximately 13 million years ago, found in the Stavropol Region of Russia . This species was originally described as Camponotites macropterus in 1981 before being transferred to the genus Oecophylla in 2017 . Fossil evidence consists of wing impressions, with female forewings about 17 mm long and male forewings 8-9.2 mm . This species is a fossil relative of living weaver ants, but its behavior and ecology are unknown due to the limited fossil record .
